On behalf of everyone at Winchester school, we would like to thank students, parents and staff who collectively wrote Allah’s 99 names artistically on the paper and canvas of their own choice and attending our calligraphy practice day. We hope that the event was an enjoyable and educational introduction to, or review of, the essence of Islamic values and culture flowed from brush and pens to colour the whole world with the hue of spirituality to welcome the holy month of Ramadan. We appreciate your amazing works and effective presence. Thank you for your time .
Day 1
It was an amazing day that has been shared all the types of Arabic food with different traditions and tastes. As well as our parents loved to share their traditions and food which was fascinating to all of us. Also students were sharing flowers and cards about the prophet’s ethics and Arabic love, and at the end of the day we had an excellent reading competition in primary. Day 2 Arabic Assembly ( primary and secondary ) showed the amazing discipline and the creativity of our lovely students. It was full of talented students as the parents were surprising from their performance. They were talking, singing and acting in the Arabic language easily. We saw that our students are capable of doing the imposable as they believe only with possibilities, and at the end of the day we had an excellent writing competition. Day 3 This day was spectacular as the students shared the real meaning of tolerance from their different prospective. We were surprised of our students confidence to speak and express their opinions. On the other hand, Secondary students were teaching the primary ones the Arabic language as it was a fascinating time. Last and not the least, there was an Arabic competitions between classes as students participated in a very lovely way. Day 4 As we end the last day in term 2 and in the week with the fun Activities which all parents and students engaged. It was including Arabic calligraphy and Hinaa. The happiness that we saw on the students face along with their parents was amazing as they can having fun and learn the Arabic language. It gives an immense pleasure to share with you that we had organized an Islamic competition of the Holy Quran for the classes from year1 to year 12 for both Arabs and Non-Arabs on 25th February 2019.This Competition brings out the best in Winchester’s students as we felt so happy to see our students are able to recite Quran with Tajweed and correct Telawah ( recitation of the Quran ). Sheikh/Ashraf Tony Abdul-Aziz, and Sheikh/ Idrees Isa, members of the Islamic Affairs Agency in Dubai, judged the competition, we can say that the students had shown enthusiasm and the spirit of the competitiveness was dominant throughout the competition. The parents also were so glad to see their children interacting and as real competitors. At the end of the completion, the winners were honored and awarded. The competition was successful thanks to all the support received from all the staff and the supervisors, so we would like to take the opportunity to wholeheartedly thank and appreciate all the kinds of effort we got from everyone to make our event successful.
Islamic support classes are held for year 2-12 every Tuesday after school to guide and support students in reading and understanding of the Qur’an and Islamic values.
A very Informative and interactive session on how Arabic is taught in the school was held on 31st of October 2018. We had an amazing response and around 70 parents turned up for the same.
For the first time in 7 years of conducting Arabic workshops, normally led by teachers - this time we made it innovative by letting the students lead the workshop.. Parents appreciated and lived the real Experience of the learning environment and the new resources, different strategies such as role-play, converting the drawings into writings, videos, flash cards, games and the vocabulary bank….ect. The school has celebrated the National Day of Saudi Arabia which has shown the brotherly foundations between the two countries, United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, people and leadership. Our students have shown enthusiasm and interaction within variety of activities which show the deep knowledge of the culture of the other nations.
Arabic and Islamic Dept. created a simulation of the pilgrimage of how to perform the rituals of Hajj. The students experienced the rituals which was motivating and enjoyable for both Muslims and Non-Muslims who saw a live scene of pilgrims doing circumambulation and pursuit around the Ka’ba (the Holy House of God ).This real experience gave detailed information about the pilgrimage. All students and staff witnessed the simulation while they crossed each corridor of the school . It was a very enlightening and fruitful experience for all. Students were able to get an excellent idea about Islam and Hajj. The students really have enjoyed a lot watching this realistic simulation. It helped to identify the Islamic culture of Muslim. This direct experience was beneficial for the students for getting all the Islamic concepts close to the imagination of our students as if we were there in that place of pilgrimage in order not to get confused when we study or even listen about performing the pilgrimage and its rituals. This experience has served the objectives of the Islamic culture in the school to be generalized among us. It was a special event for us today to witness that the Secondary students went to teach the Primary students. The Primary students have shown enthusiasm and interaction with their Secondary colleagues. Self- learning was evident in the classroom through the students’ self- dependence to get information and evaluate each other. That supported the vision of learner-centeredness. The students teaching their peers have shown the ability to lead the lesson and inspire their Primary colleagues to lead the lesson themselves.
